‘Beloved’ awarded at Slovenian festival

Slovenian festival’s Special Prize awarded to Iranian documentary.

Iranian documentary ‘Beloved’ was awarded the Special Prize at Slovenia’s Kranjska Gora International Film Festival (KGIFF).

Directed by Yaser Talebi, the award was granted on behalf of the jury panel to the film’s producer Elaheh Nobakht at the festival’s award ceremony Monday afternoon.

The documentary depicts the life of an 80-year old woman who lives a unique life in the countryside of Iran’s Alborz Mountains.

Despite the hardships she has faced throughout the years, she still remains tough and strong while maintaining her motherly persona of being kind and loving to her loved ones.

The Special Prize from the KGIFF is the sixth award that ‘Beloved’ has received from an international film festival.

Other international recognitions for the documentary include first place by the audience at the 26th Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Best Photography at the 14th Sole Luna Doc Film Festival in Italy, Best Feature Documentary at the 15th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival in Russia, Special Mention at China’s 25th Shanghai TV Festival, and a nomination at the 33rd Parnu International Documentary and Anthropology Film Festival in Estonia.

The KGIFF is a ten-day annual film festival offering international and local documentary and fiction films from various genres.

The fourth edition of the festival came to a close Monday evening.
